Toronto Book Launch Details
Let’s kiss and celebrate literature! and summer! (and Canada?) 💋
Good morning everyone!
I returned from a three-week visit to Colombia on Sunday. It was a wonderful time, between an Indian / Colombian crossover wedding, catching rides in dinky busses along the Caribbean coast, spectacular sunsets in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and acquiring altitude sickness in Bogotá resulting in a pleasant sort of fugue state which forced my body to slow down. I read Jane Eyre for the first time. I accepted invitations to two writing residencies, one which I’ll be attending in July and another in May next year. I saw a top-three, if not all-time favourite art exhibition in Bogotá, which I will write about as soon as I find the time. But presently there is no time to be had, for it seems that in my time away, my book became a real thing: typesetting is complete, ARCs are being distributed, and, of particular concern for this letter, launch events are being planned! (It’s all painfully last minute, but I’ve learned that such is the nature of indie publishing.)
The pub date for my debut story collection, We Are Busy Being Alive (full details here, if you missed the announcement post) is June 30th. I’ll be having my TORONTO LAUNCH on that very evening. The day after is Canada Day, which means it’s a holiday, which means we can party.
The launch is at my favourite bookstore in the city: TYPE Books on Queen W. I'll be reading work from the collection and having a conversation with Claire Foster, who is an author, translator, kind human, and bookseller at TYPE. The book will be available for purchase on-site.
There will be also be an afterparty nearby. Details TBA.
If you’re interested in attending, please RSVP! This will help me ensure there is enough space at the venue(s) and that you can all be adequately nourished in body and mind.
OK, that’s all for now. Here are a few pictures from Colombia. Have a nice day.
